Training at the Institute of Metals and Technology (IMT) in Ljubljana

Dr. Martina Kocijan and Virna Kisiček Flego participated from May 19 to May 26, 2025, as visiting researchers at the Institute of Metals and Technology (IMT) in Ljubljana, Slovenia for professional training in sample preparation and the use of FIB/SEM and TEM microscopes. During the eight-day training, they acquired both theoretical knowledge and practical experience, working on various samples prepared using a JEOL Cross Section Polisher and the FIB technique on the Crossbeam FIB-SEM Gemini II microscope, equipped with an EDAX EDS detection system and an EBSD imaging camera. As part of the practical work on the FIB/SEM, samples synthesized using the ALD device in Rijeka, TiO₂ thin films were prepared and analyzed using the TEM/STEM EDS Thermo Fisher Scientific Talos F200i microscope. Additionally, the operating principles of the Thermo Fisher Scientific Apreo 2S SEM microscope were demonstrated, including EDS and EBSD analysis.
