Dr. Martina Kocijan was a visiting researcher at CIC nanoGUNE in Donostia/San Sebastián, Spain, from 7 to 30 April 2026, where she received scientific and professional training in transmission electron microscopy.
During her stay, she completed intensive hands-on training using state-of-the-art instrumentation. Her training covered scanning electron microscopy (SEM), focused ion beam (FIB) techniques (including lamella preparation), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM), and monochromated electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS).
Throughout this period, Dr Kocijan acquired and strengthened both theoretical knowledge and practical skills related to advanced materials characterisation techniques. Her experimental work focused on the analysis of TiO2 thin films.2.
The research training was conducted under the supervision of Prof. Dr Andrey Chuvilin. During her stay, Dr Kocijan became acquainted with state-of-the-art instrumentation, research methodologies, and scientific activities carried out at CIC nanoGUNE.
On 22 April 2026, she delivered a lecture entitled "Atomic Layer Deposition of Thin Films: Synthesis, Characterisation, and Photocatalytic Applicationsto members of the CIC nanoGUNE research community.
