Virna Kisiček Flego (18 – 23 June) and Mattea Mačkić Jovanović (16 – 23 June) stayed as visiting researchers at the Jožef Stefan Institute in Ljubljana, within the Centre for Electron Microscopy and Microanalysis (CEMM), for advanced training in sample preparation and focused-ion-beam/scanning-electron-microscopy (FIB/SEM) techniques.
During the programme, they acquired theoretical knowledge and hands-on skills on the scanning electron microscopes Thermo Fisher Verios 4G HP, Thermo Fisher Quanta 650 ESEM, Thermo Fisher Scientific Apreo 2S and Helios 5UC.
As part of the practical segment, thin films of TiO₂, ZnO, and Cu-doped ZnO—synthesised at the Department of Physics in Rijeka using an atomic layer deposition (ALD) system—were analysed using the Thermo Fisher Verios 4G HP and Thermo Fisher Scientific Apreo 2S, equipped with EDS and EBSD analysis systems.
The participants also carried out spectroscopic characterisation of ALD-synthesised samples on a Perkin Elmer Lambda 950.
This specialised training provided them with new expertise and practical competencies in electron microscopy and spectroscopy, which will significantly enhance their research work and professional development.
