Increasing the international visibility of the Rijeka Laboratory for Scanning Electron Microscopy

POMERI is a project of the University of Rijeka - Faculty of Physics that aims to improve the visibility and recognition of the Rijeka Laboratory for Scanning Electron Microscopy through professional training of young scientists, international cooperation and the use of state-of-the-art research equipment.

FIRST AIM OF THE PROJECT

This project introduces young scientists in relevant and competitive scinetific reserach in order to begin an independent career and gain experience in conducting independent research.

It eneables them training and working on outstanding scientific equipment in the laboratories of the University of Rijeka - Faculty of Physics and the Center for Micro and Nanoscineces and Technnologies (UniRi – FoP and NANORI), as well as on similar equipment and complementary research in laboratories across Europe, with emphasis on electron microscopy.

SECOND AIM OF THE PROJECT

We will aspire for international attractiveness, recognition and visibility of the Laboratory for Scanning Electron Microscopy, with appropriately trained employees.

Only with exceptional experts in the field of electron microscopy, sample preparation and microanalysis it is possible to establish the Laboratory as the leading laboratory in Croatia and nerby. Beside the scientific research that will be carried out in the laboratories of the UniRi – FoP and NANORI, the research team will participate at workshops presenting the scientific part of the project at general public and will provide services for industrial partners.

Scientific goal

The specific scientific goal of the project is the synthesis of chemically and structurally stable and visible-activated metal-oxide semiconductors with particular application for purifying water from organic and biological pollutants. New approaches in synthesis of these materials using Atomic Layer Deposition are explored.
