5TH MICROSCOPY AND MICROANALYSIS WORKSHOP

Dr. Martina Kocijan, along with assistants Daria Jardas Babić and Virna Kisiček Flego, participated in the “5th Microscopy and Microanalysis Workshop”held from May 6 to 9 in Turku, Finland, organized by the company Top Analytica.

The workshop, considered one of the most significant professional events in the field of microscopy and microanalysis in Finland, brought together numerous experts, researchers, and industry representatives with the aim of exchanging knowledge on the latest developments in this dynamic field.

The program included theoretical lectures, interactive educational sessions, practical demonstrations, and hands-on experience with state-of-the-art analytical equipment. The participants had the opportunity to tour modern, well-equipped laboratories and become acquainted with advanced techniques and instruments, including:

  • SEM equipped with a Unity BEX detector from Oxford Instruments, enabling simultaneous imaging with backscattered electrons and X-rays for immediate visual and chemical sample analysis,
  • µFTIR microscopy for detailed chemical characterization of surfaces,
  • SEM-EDS system with an emphasis on element quantification using EDS standards,
  • and the OPTI-IR instrument, which integrates optical and infrared spectroscopy for material analysis at the microscopic level.

During the workshop, Daria Jardas Babić delivered a presentation titled “Unveiling the Nanoscale Structure of Metal Oxide Thin Films Grown by Atomic Level Deposition for Photocatalytic Applications”, in which she presented the experimental methods used within the POMERI project.

Participation in the workshop provided valuable new knowledge and practical skills in the field of electron microscopy and microanalysis, further strengthening the scientific research work and professional development of the participants and contributing to the enhancement of their professional competencies.
